Gear Review: Huk Waypoint Pants

WHAT IS IT?

Huk Waypoint Pants

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Combining a commitment to protecting anglers, as well as the environment, Huk’s new Waypoint Pants trace part of their origin to recycled plastic bottles. Partnering with REPREVE, which makes branded performance fiber from recycled materials, Huk has stepped up to help reduce plastic pollution. Providing the same attractive stylings that have quickly established its place in the performance fishing apparel market, Huk includes an eco-friendly element — averaging nine recycled plastic bottles per item in its Waypoint collection.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Collected bottles are cleaned, crushed, melted and formed into fibers that are woven into yarns that create a durable fabric treated for a 50+ UPF rating. Made from a blend of this recycled polyester, cotton and Elastane, the Huk Waypoint Pants provide flexibility while maintaining shape and fit. Made for sun protection with quick-drying, stain-resistant properties, these pants feature a zippered front fly, zippered back pocket and plier pocket. Color options: sargasso sea, iron, braid, bone and grey.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

I’ve worn these pants while working multiple tournaments, as well as two days of walking the ICAST aisles. (Not the same pair.) I found the Waypoints pants super comfortable with just the right amount of stretch, and while we sometimes toss around the term “lightweight” loosely, this garment truly qualifies. Bottom line assessment: The Huk Waypoint Pants offer a solid option for outside work but also fashionable enough to wear inside for times when you want a more dignified presentation.
