Gear Review: Castaic Jerky J

WHAT IS IT?

Castaic Jerky J

WHAT SETS IT APART?

The Jerky J originally got its reputation from postspawn, ledge fishing events on the Tennessee River where great numbers of anglers would fish the bait on an oversized scrounger head. Since getting its name as the go-to bait for a scrounger head, the Jerky J is now recognized as being very versatile. Made from a durable, soft plastic, the Jerky J has a very unique action and will last for multiple fish.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Available in three sizes – 3.5 inches, 5 inches and 7 inches – the Jerky J can be fished a number of different ways. As previously mentioned, it’s extremely effective on a scrounger head but can be fished as a traditional soft plastic jerkbait, vibrating jig trailer, drop-shot bait or even vertically on a jighead. The wide range of sizes makes the bait extremely versatile. An angler can effectively fish the Jerky J as a finesse presentation with the 3.5 inch or power presentation with the 5- and 7-inch models. With 32 different colors to choose from, matching the hatch will not be a problem.
