Gear Review: AFTCO Hydronaut Gloves

What is it?

AFTCO Hydronaut Gloves

What sets it apart?

Who says fishermen can’t accessorize? Apparently, AFTCO’s all for the idea, as evidenced by the new gloves designed to work in conjunction with the Hydronaut heavy-duty system. Extending the commitment to warmth, protection from the elements and functional features, these gloves are made with a 220D 4-way stretch shell and feature microfiber fleece with 3M Thinuslate insulation and a Durable Water Resistant treatment.

How do I use it?

The AFTCO Hydronaut Gloves include adjustable Velcro wrist strap with Thermoplastic Rubber pull tabs so you can snug them as tightly as you like, while a drawstring closes the flared cuff to keep the cold air out. Look closely and you’ll see a standard startup button symbol on the index finger — that means the Hydronaut is touchscreen compatible. The design also includes an integrated screen wipe (basically a squeegee on your finger), reinforced palm with embossed logo and reflective AFTCO logo and accents for safety in low light conditions. This black glove is available in sizes M-XXL.

Angler’s insight:

Tournament anglers can’t pick their fishing days, but even casual fishermen often find themselves limited to the windows of opportunity that family and work schedules allow. During the colder months, dependable gloves can make those less-than-cozy days more manageable. AFTCO nailed it with the strength and durability stuff, but details like the integrated screen wipe just make sense. Clean electronics screens are important, but how many times have you lamented spray, fog or rain drops on your sunglasses, goggles, face mask or helmet face shield? One finger stroke with this glove does more good than awkwardly rubbing the surface.
