Pairing that with a 40-inch RPT (Recovery Per Turn) qualifies the Speed Spool RX 200 HyperSpeed as an extra high speed (aka hyper speed) reel and makes it one of the fastest baitcasters on the market. Notably, while gear ratio (the number of times the spool revolves with one complete turn of the handle) matters, RPT is the more impressive detail, as it measures how much line is recovered with that handle turn.

Examples are endless but consider a few scenarios where a hyper speed reel plays a vital role. First, you’re fishing a pencil popper or the blueback herring spawn and halfway through your retrieve, a herd of big spots blow up 10 yards behind your bait.
