Taking flight over Lake Martin

Get a bird's-eye view of largemouth habitat that could be in play.

It’s Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026, also the second day of practice for the Lippert Bassmaster Elite at Lake Martin.
For this gallery I chose to focus on habitat favored by the lake’s largemouth population. My flight area encompassed areas north of Wind Creek State Park and into the Tallapoosa River.
Farther down lake the attention was on spotted bass, and rightfully so. Forward-facing sonar is allowed in this tournament, and those fish are concentrated nearer the dam out in open water.
The boats and anglers I encountered were clearly searching for evidence of prespawn movement. Nearly all of the anglers were also using their forward-facing sonar.
