Jay Przekurat’s jerkbait tacklebox

Bassmaster Elite Series pro Jay Przekurat favors jerkbaits across the bass fishing seasons, and especially during the primetime spring and fall timeframes. “Jerkbaits bridge the gap between late winter and into early springtime when bass activity gets cranked up,” the Wisconsin pro said. “They are my go-to during the fall transition into winter when bass get active again after summertime.”
Przekurat favors the Strike King KVD Jerkbait 300 Deep featuring a harmonic combination of roll, wiggle and flash. A proprietary weight transfer system for increased castability, realistic 3D eyes and premium black nickel hooks complete the package.
Jerkbaits stay organized in this Ballistix Twitch Tackle Tray from Ballistic Outdoors. Featuring seven thin horizontal dividers, the tray creates eight long compartments, providing space for storing two long baits.
Przekurat favors the overall thinness of the trays for stacking and organizing in boat storage compartments. “I can fit more boxes and bring more baits.”
Durable outer materials provide durability for longevity and protection of the contents.
Silicone slots on each end keep treble hooks in place, preventing tangling while preserving bait finishes for storing up to 16 baits. “At a quick glance you can see all the baits and quickly grab what you need,” Przekurat said. The tray is also infused with X-Rust corrosion-fighting technology to keep expensive baits safe from rust.
Oversized waterproof gasket keep moisture out which is valuable in wet conditions.
The single compression latch allows one-handed use to also ensure the watertight seal with the gasket.
Durable bulked corners absorb impact with a thick polycarbonate lid for extra toughness.
The 300 Deep measures 4.5 inches in length and dives to 11 feet. Przekurat likes that depth range for its versatility and ability to penetrate deeper strike zones especially in early spring. “At Lake Fork I found big prespawn bass suspended in timber before going to spawn, and the lure really dialed in a bite in 50 to 55 degrees,” Przekurat said. Likewise, he’s found great success for deeper smallmouth using the preferred color pattern.
For overall versatility in stained and clear water he favors this Pro Blue pattern.
“It’s a confidence lure because it’s caught quality fish for me no matter where we go on the Elite Series,” Przekurat said.
Another top choice is this Natural Shad pattern for dirty or clean water
Przekurat uses this pattern in spring or fall.
For clearer water he favors this Crystal Shad pattern.
That pattern performs well in early spring and late winter.
