Jason Christie’s jerkbait tacklebox

Forward-facing sonar jerkbait completes a powerful package of fish-catching appeal.

Forward-facing sonar inspired a second life for the ubiquitous jerkbait, its initial design intended to attract bass from afar with a reaction bite. BOOYAH Bait Co. designed its premium model specifically for forward-facing sonar.
Progressive Bassmaster Elite Series pro Jason Christie, already a self-proclaimed jerkbait junky, helped create and test the Flash Point in shallow, deep and junior models in a color palette for varying water conditions encountered with jerkbaits. The Flash Point is a slender minnow-bodied lure offering a fast, darting action that suspends at a 45-degree angle and includes a tungsten weight-transfer system for longer casts.
“Water clarity changes often especially during spring when weather fronts create turbidity from rain runoff,” said Christie. “The Flash Point is one year old now, so I’m still experimenting to dial in the best colors for conditions.”
What makes the Flash Point stand out is the custom, sonically welded blade on its head that enhances sonar returns while adding a unique, high-visibility flash when the bait is jerked on the retrieve.
For muddy water Christie favors this Vegas pattern in the shallow model.
The Flash Point shallow runs at depths up to 1 foot.
Christie chooses the Chrome Dome model for dingy conditions
The Flash Point Deep runs at depths from 8 to 12 feet.
Christie uses the Pro Pink model for clearer water.
Christie favors this pattern from the Lurenet Custom Paint Shop for deeper water.
Lure designer Frank Scalish created the paint job for Christie.
Christie likes the different Flash Point sizes to match the sizes of baitfish being fed upon by the bass.
For tough conditions and with smallmouth Christie downsizes to the junior model in the Elegy Bone pattern.
