The point of no return

Patrick Walters is likely the angler that’s doing the best here this week, while running the farthest. With about a 70 mile run separating Walters from the ramp, he’s basically fishing the edge of the point of no return.

With very little civilization around Oahe, there’s not a gas station on the water every five miles like you’d see on other lakes we visit. Matt Robertson talked about this during practice, basically pointing out that if you go more than 65 miles, you’ve committed to running 90 miles to get to the nearest gas pumps. Because once you venture much past 65 miles, you’d have to get gas to get back.

Walters has pretty much gone as far as possible, without investing another hour or more in going to get gas. And it’s working well for him, sitting in 9th currently.
