The midway point

Matt Robertson has the lead at the midway point again here on Day 1, having led the first day at Lake Murray last week as well. He has a five fish limit for 22 pounds, 4 ounces, with a 3-pounder being his smallest fish to cull.

Elite Series Rookie Kyle Norsetter sits in second, with 20 pounds, 9 ounces. His smallest weighs 1-5 and his second smallest is 2-5, so he’s actually in a little better shape than Robertson to cull up to a mega bag. Norsetter has three in the boat that tally 17 pounds on their own.

Carl Jocumsen sits in third, on the cusp of eclipsing 20 pounds. But he’ll need one giant or several big bites to stay up there. He has all solid fish in the 3- to 4- pound range currently. There are a handful of 13- to 15- pound bags, some with only three or four fish in them. So those anglers are a threat to leap into the lead with one or two good bites.

We are seeing what was predicted, not a lot of bites but a lot of big ones. The current top 10 on BassTrakk have 45 bass in the boat averaging over 3- and 1/2- pounds each. That’s after only four hours of fishing. Look for 20 plus to be sitting in 10th at the end of Day 1.
