Sunny and calm, calling shots now

After a “slow” morning plagued by non-committal bass, the sun is rising higher in the sky and the guys are starting to call their shots.

“That one should eat,” Gallant said as he pitched to a bass he had spotted on his graph. Three seconds later Gallant hooked up. “I love smallmouth fishing so much. It’s not a good, good one. But it’s a 4-pounder, one I’d like to have in the boat.”

Gallant boated this nice bass, and we’ve seen Bryan Schmitt and Joey Cifuentes boat good ones in the last 5 minutes as well. The sun is out, the water is slick and the fish are getting more aggressive. These are the conditions that anglers waited all day for yesterday, and finally got in the waning hours of the day. Though cloudy and windy often works best for spots and largemouth, sunny, calm and clear is the best combination for these visual feeding smallmouth.
