Joey Cifuentes III has won two Elite titles this year. Kyoya Fujita has won one already and is in contention here today for another. Cifuentes finished the St. Lawrence River in 17th, an impressive way to close out a stellar season. With a 15-point cushion coming into the final event, this should have been plenty for the Cowboy to close out his ROY campaign.
The only problem: Fujita made the final day. If he finishes 3rd, where he sits on BassTrakk currently, it’ll result in an outright win for Cifuentes in the ROY race. A 2nd place finish today will cause a tie, but the tiebreaker goes to Cifuentes. If Fujita finishes today on top, however, he’ll earn the Dakota Lithium Rookie of the Year title as well, by one point. That’s as tight as it gets.
