Pond bass in Fork?

I learned something cool from leader and local hammer Lee Livesay during a ride-along with him in official practice for the Simms Bassmaster Elite on Lake Fork.

He pointed out on his graph how there was a “saddle” in the mouth of this pocket, indicated by the green highlighted topo lines.

He told me this pocket was actually a pond that was built prior to Lake Fork. In fact, it was one of many built and stocked with Florida strain bass by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

These ponds were built in conjunction with Fork, so that as the lake filled with water, the bass in these ponds could be growing. Once the lake started to near full pool for the first time, the TPWD came in and busted the dams, instantly stocking the lake with giants and future giants.
