John Cox’s good luck charm

Bass anglers are a superstitious breed. If they have a good tournament, they wear the same hats or underwear the next event. Or they keep a new mustache in hopes luck will continue to shine on them. Have a bad event? Out goes that special hat, the ‘stache is cut, underwear finally get washed.

Florida’s John Cox took it to a different level, however. After leading the Progressive Bassmaster Angler of the Year race for much of the season, Cox failed to make a check in either of the New York tournaments or the Lake Oahe event, and his AOY ranking tumbled accordingly.

So what brought such unfortunate luck?
