Well here we are, the midway point of the Bassmaster Elite Series season. With two Elite events in the books at the time, it’s been a whirlwind since crowning Jeff Gustafson Classic Champ just a month and a half ago. In 6 weeks, we’ve had two more Elite events, two Opens and near a dozen other tournaments. We’re in the thick of it now, and the grind has set in for the anglers in more than one way.
Practice for the fifth stop of the Elite Series has been brutal, by all accounts. Undoubtedly, someone is catching them. But whoever that is, he hasn’t been talking. Instead, all the talk is centered around a tough, tough bite. There should at least be some fireworks early as the anglers look to capitalize on the short lived shad spawn. The Whataburger Bassmaster Elite is underway now though, so we’ll see if some of the pros have been sandbagging, or if the post-spawn funky fishing is as bad as they say.
