Wind and current are opposing forces

There are a couple of things at work on this spot that could be impacting the catch rate. It’s not been gang busters despite Johnston’s heavy bag.

It’s slow enough Paquette has moved on leaving three. Like I explained earlier the wind and current are opposing forces. That makes for a slower drift and in some ways could slow the bite as well.

Ken Golub, my perennial boat driver in New York and a derby stick in these parts, says it’s much better without the wind fighting you from that direction.

Take that and add the fact that we are under cloudy skies at the moment and you don’t have the perfect scenario for catching or getting tons of bites.

Sun would help position the fish on this spoil and make it easier to pinpoint exact spots and drifts.

That could materialize by days end. But if it doesn’t it’s still a derby-leading spot on it’s worst days.
