When you come into a tournament with an open mind that can be a good thing. When that mind is connected to Jacob Wheeler it can be an even better thing.
“I’ve never fished here so I have no preconceived notions about it not being as good as last year, or off.”
That’s what he shared with me this morning on the dock.
“So all that doesn’t affect me, although the smallmouth are more educated.”
Wheeler went on to tell me that fits into his strategical wheelhouse of skills. Those include dialing into smallmouth jaded by a year’s worth of hard angling pressure. Wheeler has an uncanny ability to solve any mystery involving offshore smallmouth. He is very adept at video game fishing, as the technique is called.
So far so good. Wheeler is fourth with a limit weighing 11 pounds, 9 ounces. Even more important was on the last cycle of the standings for Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year. Wheeler as of this hour is second in the standings. Of course, that is subject to change with every cast.
