What to watch for

I see a couple of factors in play today that are worth watching.

First is the sunshine. This morning it appeared bright and unhindered by any cloud cover at all. Previously, cloudy and partly cloudy skies were the norm on Friday and Saturday.

What that means, and as Jacob Wheeler mentioned in my previous blog, is the offshore smallmouth will set up sooner on the shady sides of rocks those fish are using as ambush feeding points for passing baitfish. So what was a better late bite during the previous days could warm up much sooner today.

Second is the wind. Compared to the first two days the wind is much calmer. The wind is not a factor here today and that is a good sign for the anglers fishing nearer the shoreline. Those areas have had time to dilute and become clearer after boat traffic and windy conditions made them muddy, and in some areas, too muddy to fish.
