Kyle Welcher emerged from the northern smallmouth swing 4th in the Elite Series Rookie of the Year standings and 24th in the Angler of the Year standings. Welcher, who is from Opelika, Ala., is in his comfort zone now. He says his strength is fishing a frog, and Lake Guntersville is frog world for bass anglers.
Welcher had three bass in the boat by 8 o’clock today and was in the early top 10 in the BASSTrakk standings.
