Water temps vary, so does bite

This morning Matt Lee clued me in about the broad spectrum of fishing conditions currently in play on Grand Lake.

“It depends on which side of the lake you are on, but some places there is 65-degree water and it’s 55 degrees elsewhere.”

That confirms why the bass are in all phases of the spawn and eager to flood the shoreline and spawn. It’s late for that here, and all of the conditions are falling into place for an ideal bite as the week goes on. That includes the full moon occurring on Monday.

“It’s real in between right now but it will all flow one direction with the warm up ahead,” he added. “In practice I found bedding bass in some places and others way off shore but ready to move in.”

That warm up was forecast to begin today, but it looks like that won’t happen until Friday. Today’s forecast calls for cloudy skies all day with a high temperature of 65. Reaching that is unlikely considering the current temperature of 52 degrees.
