Waiting on the feeding frenzy

After one of the longest takeoffs in recent memory, 225 boats have spilled out onto lakes Toho and the Kissimmee Chain. Both are huge. But not big enough to swallow the whole field.

We’ve been idling around the flats of Kissimmee for 30 minutes. There are pods of boats virtually everywhere. A good portion are recreational boats out for a day of fishing on a warm, calm day.

The competitors are running to and fro. Hitting one flat. Then off to the next. But from what we’ve seen the fishing hasn’t been lights out. As a matter of fact having seen more than 10 percent of the field, we’ve yet to see a fish catch.

That kind of goes with what we were hearing at registration yesterday. It’s been on the tough side. But every single angler in the field believes at any second the warm, sunny skies will kick in a feeding frenzy with bucks and females heading to the spawning areas. Not happening yet. At the moment it appears as if most are simply waiting.

Being impatient, all of us are hoping for something sooner than later.
