Turnover: just a hunch

Around Labor Day a number of pros came to scout Carters Lake. Those I spoke with yesterday compared it to a completely different fishery. The fish are here, the bite is not.

The first significant cold snap of the season—even though it’s late October—occurred just last week. And another is coming this week. Above average rainfall, considering the entire region has been under a drought.

Cold weather, chilly runoff and subpar fishing. All three are signs of a fall turnover. The dreaded words of autumn for a bass fisherman. Let’s plan on watching how this hunch pans out. If it does there is tough fishing ahead. If not we’ll hopefully see the signs of what folks around here say is the best spotted bass fishery in Georgia.
