Ronnie Moore, the grand statmaster of Bassmaster numbers, just shared with me this tough break story about Jake Whitaker that happened on Sunday.
Ronnie’s good friend had 16 pounds, 6 ounces, which would have moved him inside the Top 50 cut into 47th place.
The trouble came when Whitaker checked in with the wrong flight. He came in one flight too late, thinking he was in the final flight. That costly error nullified his weight for the day, dropping him to 91st place. More costly was the 44-point swing minimum from the mistake.
“He was super bummed by his accident,” said Ronnie. “He had no idea why he thought he was to check in at 4:15 instead of 3:50.”
Maybe Whitaker should do like I see a number of the guys do, which is write their check-in time on the top of their hand with a marker pen.
