Timmy Horton is hot

Timmy Horton has a limit that includes the all-important kicker fish, a 7 1/2-pounder caught at 9:12 a.m. It came in the midst of a 20-minute flurry that also included a 5-pounder and a 4-0, giving him an estimated weight of 23-0 for the day.

Horton is one of several anglers either over or approaching the crucial 20-pound mark. Derek Remitz has 21-10, Kelley Jaye has 20-0 and Brett Hite has 19-4. If you're following the BASSTrakk Twitter feed, you've noticed that fish-catches haven't slowed all morning. But pay attention to the 4-pounders and up. Anything less than that won't help much when you've got to catch 5 weighing a total of 20 pounds just to stay in the hunt here. And a 7 1/2-pounder, like Horton apparently has, is a real difference-maker.
