The rogue pattern

This world championship has the dynamics of being a Classic like none other. Time of year is why. In Classics past the event was held when wintertime patterns dominated the bite. That one-dimensional strategy limited the strategies for the anglers.

Not so with this event. With the late-March tournament held in southeast Texas the bite is wide open. Pre-spawn, spawn and post-spawn patterns are in play.

So is a shad spawn, which brings a new diminsion to the game. That shad spawn is getting exploited right now by the anglers, including Kevin VanDam. He and a number of anglers traveled short distances from the launch site to beginu fishing. For them, the reason why is the shad spawn.

All week we’ve heard about catching bass during all phases of the spawn, but very little about the shad spawn. That’s understandable, since the window of opportunity is narrow for catching bass during that period. But oh when it works, does it deliver.
