The pattern of the fall

Now that we’ve had three days of falling water at Lake Texoma, a definite pattern has emerged: The lake level is dropping half a foot per day.

It went from 625.86 feet above sea level at midnight Tuesday to 625.33 at midnight Wednesday – a drop of .53 – and it was 624.81 at midnight last night – a decrease of .52.

What does that mean for the anglers? For one, it means the bottom isn’t going to drop out of the flipping bite anytime soon. But, maybe more importantly, it might bring a strong topwater bite into play. On “Bassmaster LIVE” we’ve already seen an example of Gerald Swindle experimenting with a buzzbait.

Jacob Powroznik finished Day 2 in 33rd place with 24-4. He needs to make a big move today if he’s going to make the Top 12 cut.

“At some point with this water falling, it’s going to get right,” Powroznik said. “I’m going to throw a topwater bait all day long (Friday).”
