Moving to the other side of his starting cove, Kennedy saw a quality fish under the corner of a dock. That prompted him to make a bait switch to something he’d rigged up this morning, and shortly thereafter he hooked and landed a solid bass that weighed 4 pounds 2 onces.
That gets him on the board in a big way.
His wife Julia says he sometimes “gets stuck on stupid,” throwing the big bait for far too long, but with that simple move he showed just how savvy and flexible he can be. You don’t get to his level of success without having a mind for the game.
The catch loosened up his posture and his attitude. He was already chatty but now he’s talking more freely. I believe and hope that we’re going to get the show that we want. It may not be enough to win eventually — that remains to be seen — but he’s pursuing a strategy that’s tailor made to hoist a trophy.
