BASSfest marks the crossing of the halfway point in the 11-event Elite Series season. It’s event No. 6. The Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year chatter becomes increasingly intense from here on out. It appears to be a two-man race between former AOY champs Greg Hackney (2014) and Gerald Swindle (2004). But it’s a little early for the AOY race to be in tight focus.
Here’s a look at how the AOY points among the leaders have changed from the conclusion of event No. 5, Toledo Bend, to Day 3 at Lake Texoma. The asterisks note the four anglers who are in the Top 12 today. Their points and rankings could change slightly, since AOY points are ultimately based only on the final results from each tournament.
Note that in the case of ties in total points, the tiebreaker is total weight caught during the first two days of Elite Series tournaments. For instance, you’ll notice Bradley Roy, Bill Lowen and Matt Herren are tied with 451 points, but Roy’s total weight on Days 1 and 2 of the first six tournaments is 163-6, Lowen’s is 159-2 and Herren’s is 156-0.
