The hoped-for flurry

The hoped-for flurry like that of yesterday hasn’t started yet. Even though Alton and Scanlon have this drift to themselves the bites haven’t come at the pace of a day earlier.

It’s still early, but my camera boat driver, Chris Noffsinger, and I are making the same drift with these guys and we aren’t marking many fish on the electronics. We could see a sampling yesterday. It’s fairly void today. We notice on BassTrakk that all the guys who made this run up here have yet to catch one.

This time yesterday each of them had a good start.

In the middle of typing that sentence, Alton hooks up and quickly reels in the smallest fish we’ve seen. It was a smallmouth this time. But too short to go in the box.

Back to the original thought: by this time yesterday each of these guys had decent 4-pound class smallmouth, possibly two a piece. And Brandon Palaniuk had caught two that were 5-plus.
