The crowd will soon thin

You’d rather be one of the first anglers on the west side of Lake George, where the majority of the field is fishing for shallow, spawning bass. But there’s an advantage in getting a late-flight takeoff time too.

Mark Davis mentioned this morning how he made the most of that situation two years ago on the St. Johns River. He got a late flight draw, fished elsewhere most of the day, then moved into the popular hot spots late in the day, as the crowds thinned. He caught two key 6-pounders during the final hour or so.

Check-in time for the first flight today is 3:40 p.m., so those anglers will soon have to head back to Palatka.
