After struggling through a mostly slow morning, Texas pro Frank Talley looks to be on a roll that could lead somewhere good. Fresh off his first Elite win at last week’s event on Lake Guntersville, he’s fishing a bladed jig deep into Lake Marion cypress trees.
Talley, who placed fourth on Day 1 with 19-8, caught a 5-pounder around 8 o’clock, but since that one, it’s been a grind. However, his patience seems to be paying off as a 45-minute period yielded four connections.
“They’re starting to bite, so maybe we can cull out (the smaller fish) and catch another big sack,” Talley said.
According to Talley’s analysis, the cloudy skies and a little wind increase have stimulated a bite. Also, he recently relocated from about 4 1/2 feet to 3 and found a little more color in the water is also benefiting his program.
Talley’s optimistic that he’ll have another shot at a Santee Cooper kicker. “It’s coming together,” he said. “It’s about time to hang a mule.”
