Storm passed, now we wait

The worst part of the weather has cleared our area. Hopefully everyone is safe, especially the pros who camp during the events.

On a personal note, I have the highest respect for Trip Weldon and his decision. Long ago I was in his job and have firsthand experience on what went through his mind. Trip took my position as assistant tournament director when I transferred to the editorial department. He is the best at what he does and is blessed to have a staff to match.

The photo is a screen grab I made of the precipitation map for the tournament area. In the middle is Jackson, Miss., and to the northeast is Ross Barnett Reservoir.

As you can see, most of the heaviest precipitation is west of The Rez. However, the Pearl River tops the list for flood potential on the Hydrologic Outlook from the National Weather Service. The NWS also just issued a Flash Flood Warning for the area until noon. That makes sense for public safety and more. What is more means the geography of this area is relatively flat. What hits the ground runs off into the watershed.

The Rez is a big watershed. So is the Pearl River. Put both together and you have the potential for a different fishery on Day 4.

In fishing terms, that will affect water clarity and level at the Rez and up the Pearl River, where some of the top anglers including leader Dustin Connell have fished this week. Stay tuned; Day 4 is going to be a whole new game.
