After bouncing around St. Clair for half an hour we've settled in on Gerald Swindle. We pulled up in time for him to boat his third keeper.
It wasn't huge but gave him about 7 pounds on the day. Like many of the anglers he has a spinning rod in his hand.
That's only notable because in the 16 or more years I've covered Swindle, this is the first time I've ever seen him fishing with a spinning rod.
He's the king of junk fishing, which typically means having heavier equipment in his paws. But this lake isn't especially suited for that kind of fishing.
My camera boat driver Chris Noffsinger and I are still bundled up a bit. It's not cold, we just weren't prepared for the cool day. It started in the 50s and it doesn't feel like it's climbed much.
"I never thought I'd be cold on St. Clair in the middle of August," Noffsinger said.
Neither did I. But it sure beats the close to 100 degrees we've had earlier in the month closer to home.
