When Gerald Swindle won his second Angler of the Year title in 2016, his key to success was slowing down, not burning a bunch of gas running all over the lake. He mentioned it repeatedly throughout that season.
It was the key to his success on Day 1 at Grand Lake as well, when he tied for 5th place with 21-8. Swindle noted that it’s especially important right now, when bass are coming shallow fast to spawn.
“Their strike zone is about that big,” said Swindle, holding his hands a foot apart. “So if your bait flies through there, you ain’t going to catch ’em. Those repeated slow casts were the key for me.”
