The word seeped out yesterday that a wave of spawners moved into the shallows on the final day of practice, but those big bass might not have stuck around through yesterday’s no-fishing period.
I caught up with Hunter Shryock in the back of a canal, and he was perched on his trolling motor mount to get the best view.
However, he didn’t sound happy.
“I caught one looking at it, but they are gone,” Shryock said. “Isn’t that the way it happens?”
The bass in his livewell isn’t what he’s looking for, either.
“It’s just a keeper,” Shryock lamented.
