Shad, bass, everywhere

John Crews is in the midst of a shad spawn on his spot. Bass are taking swipes at his fake offerings of jerkbaits and swimbaits that match the size and appearance of the bait.

When a bass breaks the surface with his lure elsewhere he “psycho winds” it back to the boat. That’s James Overstreet speak for a franticly fast retrieve and target-aimed cast at the breaking bass.

We are watching the shad spawn and it’s pretty cool. Flicks of silver along the outside edge of the shoreline of this island are the telltale signs. You can hear them too. It’s a constant sound of churning water.
