Queen eagerly awaiting double dose of “keepers”

K.J. Queen would love to hold a couple of 5-pounders on Lake Hartwell this week. But while that may be a tall order, in terms of Classic fishing, he and his wife Kayley know that they’ll soon hold a couple of keepers that they’ll name Kallen and Kash.

Kayley’s nearing the 31-week mark and while the target is 38, babies don’t always follow the script.

“I could go into labor at any time because twins come early,” she said. “They’re about 4 pounds right now and if they go full term, they’ll be 5-6 pounds.”

As if fishing his first Bassmaster Classic wasn’t stressful enough, Queen will have to manage the excitement, anticipation and uncertain timing of this huge life event. That being said, such things tend to motivate a man.

“You win the Classic and it’ll change your life,” Queen said. “That’s what we’re here for and that’s what I’m going to go try and do.”

And the thought of knowing his wife and soon-to-arrive sons will watch him cross the Classic stage?

“It’s awesome. It warms my heart.”

How’s mom holding up?

“I think I’m good; I think I can hold out until after the Classic,” Kayley said.

Of course, two active little boys in her belly gives a new meaning to the term “kicker.”
