Pace predicts a flurry is near

Cliff Pace, the 2013 Bassmaster Classic champion at Grand Lake, predicts we’re witnessing the calm before a flurry after noon. It’s a combination of two things: 1) the lack of wind this morning is making it tough to catch a fish, but 2) it’s also allowing the water temperature to warm more than it would if the wind were blowing.

“You’ll see somebody have a two-hour flurry this afternoon where they make the right pass at the right time and boom, boom, boom,” Pace said. “The guy that wins this tournament will figure out a way to catch one or two of those big ones each day from 11 o’clock to weigh-in.”

A Grand Lake “big one” would be 7 pounds or greater. And there are quite a few of those in this lake, giving every slugger a chance to hit a late home run.

“This could be a Classic where somebody rallies at 1:00 o’clock and comes from nowhere to win it on the last day,” Pace said. “I really think it could be that kind of tournament.”
