BASSTrakk has Brock Mosley in second place. How does a kid from Mississippi do so well on a natural, northern lake?
The answer is the smallmouth fishing crash course Mosley took earlier this summer. Mosley also competes in the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Open series. The first event on the Northern schedule was late June on Oneida Lake. He spent most of the month pre-fishing the renowned New York smallmouth fishery. He finished 14th, just outside the Top 12.
From there, Mosley took his newfound smallmouth mojo to the northern swing of the Elite Series. He finished second behind Kevin VanDam on the St. Lawrence River.
“I took advantage of the break we had between Lake Dardanelle and the Open in late June to learn about the smallmouth,” he told me.
Time well spent. Above all else, the lift will help Mosley in the Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year race. After Day 1 he was in 49th place.
