Montgomery catching skinny fish

Andy Montgomery would like to have caught these bass a week ago before they went on the “spawning diet.” Montgomery is one of the early leaders with a limit weighing 14-12, but he said, “They are spawned out completely. At any other time, these fish would have weighed over 20 pounds. These are the skinniest post-spawn fish I’ve ever seen.”
BASS staffer Gettys Brannon is following Montgomery this morning. He reports that Montgomery landed a bass with a “5-pound head, that weighed 3-3.”

With water temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to lower 70s, it’s likely that bass are in all three stages of the spawn right now, with more post-spawners than pre-spawners. Montgomery, obviously, is capitalizing on a post-spawn bite.
