After catching up with Menendez he thinks he has about 15 pounds, which is par for course. All these guys guess low on the water.
I told him it would be great to get some photos of another one like he had caught earlier. That was the 4 1/2-pounder that gave him the lead.
He said it was okay because I probably wouldn’t have gotten them anyway. When I asked why not. He told me he was in the process of relieving himself. In those instances we always lay down the camera. Despite being caught in mid-stream, Menendez was able to hook and the fish.
Moments later, right after telling the story he hooked up with his sixth keeper. A 2 1/3-pounder that allowed him to cull up 3/4’s of a pound.
It’s our guess that he’s over that 16 pound mark for certain.
