Mark Daniels Jr., whose nickname is MDJ, was the first to arrive at the ramp this morning. He got there at 5 a.m., or more than 90 minutes before official takeoff. Daniels was all smiles and ready to go out and have some fun on Lake St. Clair.
He’s off to a good start. Here’s the cool back story about one of his key lures.
It’s a Dual Hardcore Crankbait given to him by Clent Davis, after both anglers fished a buddy tournament not long ago. Daniels asked his buddy to loan another crankbait and Davis obliged.
“It’s my big fish bait,” he told me.
Daniels switches out the crankbait when locating individual fish over isolated bottom structure. His underwater eyes are the Garmin Panoptix technology. The switch bait is a 4-inch Poor Boy’s Erie Darter, rigged to a No. 1 Owner Mosquito Hook and 3/8-ounce tungsten weight.
