Yesterday I quizzed some of the incoming Top 12 anglers on what got them to where they are on Saturday.
Everyone has a lesson learned story, which is what I was hoping to hear. Mark Daniels Jr. shared this bit of advice we all can use.
“I followed my gut, my instinct, instead of over-thinking what to do,” he said.
Daniels went on to say that he was teetering on fishing one of the river systems, a security blanket, as he called it, or taking a gamble and fishing the big water.
His reasoning was to stay in the river would produce only mediocre catches.
“I knew coming into this tournament that 15 pounds a day wasn’t going to cut it.”
He was right. It took at least 60 pounds to make Championship Sunday.
Clearly, fishing the big water is yielding big fish. Daniels just took the lead away from Jordan Lee.
