Shortly after the noon hour, Scott martin reconnected with an old friend. Well, not that old, but a significant moment, nonetheless.
Having invested nearly two and a half hours of his day in running and locking down to Lake Apopka — the Harris Chain’s headwaters — the second-year Elite said he believed this was his best opportunity at big bags.
With a small limit in the boat, Martin was locked onto a reed point when he came tight and exclaimed: “That’s the one. That’s the one.”
After a tense battle, Martin swing the 5-pounder into the boat and culled out a 1 1/2.
“I shook that one off in practice,” Martin said. “I frayed the (cattails) a little bit so I’d know this was the spot.”
That catch gave Martin a limit of 13-4 and moved him into 22nd place. (All weights unofficial until weigh-ins.)
