Lucas’ logic

As noted yesterday Justin Lucas is fishing “West Coast style” with a spinning rig. Insert textbook lure and tactic here, since I’m not allowed to list baits in this blog.

What’s universal, West or East coast fishing style, is  tidal flow. Everyone whose patterns are contingent on the tide being just right are playing the waiting game right now.

Lucas is about 2 hours away from his best window so he’s not going anywhere for now. When it does get right, well, it’s right.

“When the tide comes in on this south wind it will really rush in here,” he said.

What will rush in is the nutrient rich water and current that ignite tidal river bass. His area, a known community hole, has the distinction of having eddy-creating structure in just the right places.

“The tide creates all these eddies and there are so many places for them to hide.”

Translated into simpler terms that  means more bass habitat is created for the fish to stage in the calmer water. And more specific casting targets to Lucas.
