Lowen knows some bass will be shallow

Bill Lowen is fishing his 10th Bassmaster Classic. And the noted shallow-water specialist likes the location.

“I’ve been really looking forward to this one,” Lowen said. “They get shallower on Guntersville when the water is cold than any place I’ve ever seen.”

The water is cold – mid 40s probably at takeoff today, warming to the lower 50s at the surface in some areas. But the fluctuating water levels have the fish in a funk, Lowen believes.

“If it would just get stable, I think you’d see a lot of things change,” Lowen said. “I’m going to fish shallow, and I’m going to fish my game. When I get a bite, it’s a big one. I could potentially roll out with four rods on the deck. Typically, I’ve got 15 or 20 laying out there. But I’m going to fish for big bites. I know how to catch big ones here shallow.”

Lowen was 14th at Guntersville in the Elite Series event last year in June. He was 30th in the 2014 Classic at Guntersville. His best Classic finish was 4th at Oklahoma’s Grand Lake in 2016.
