Lee’s switch pays off

The sun came out early and has now disappeared, albeit briefly, and over Jordan Lee’s area.

Some are comparing the young Alabama pro to Kevin VanDam. That’s valid and here’s a subtle sign.

Lee’s strategy on Day 1 and 2 was contingent on cloud cover that’s ideal for his topwater pattern in a mix of duckweed and lily pads. Today after the sun came out he faced a pivotal decision.

Choices: Stay put or move in favor of finding a pattern offering the potential of success under post-frontal, sunny conditions.

When things go bad it’s human nature to change. Lee chose to stay, making a key lure adjustment that might pay off. Partly because he doesn’t have another productive area. But also due to good instincts.

“They might not want to come up,” he said, after swithing to a sub-surface soft-plastic lure.

You can also consider his new lure choice a case of having confidence in the lure. So far this season he’s used the rig at more than one tournament to score big.

Lee is taking care of business with the coolness and calmness usually posessed by veteran anglers, namely Kevin VanDam.
