This time yesterday the skies opened up with torrential rain over the La Crosse area. Today the skies are opening up with sunshine. In the bass fishing success equation that means sunshine + wind = post-front conditions. Spelled out that means tougher fishing ahead.
That brings pain to the anglers whose strategies were contingent on cloudy skies. On that list is Ott DeFoe, Jordan Lee, Seth Feider and a host of others. The leader board is already indicating proof of adjusments that are undeway–and making a difference.
From nowhere Takahio Omori has moved into second with a limit weighing 16 pounds. Alton Jones has the lead. More surprises are Skeet Reese in sixth and Keith Combs in seventh. For comparison, Gerald Swindle is way down in the mid-30s. That could make the AOY race interesting, should Combs make the Top 12.
For now, the weather will continue leading the variables ahead for the anglers. What’s so neat about that is what we as average bass anglers will learn from how the pros make adjustments in post-front conditions.
