Kuphall lands 7-8 on a spinnerbait

Caleb Kuphall had experienced the most dramatic catch of the day. He was just about to lift his white spinnerbait out of the water to make another cast when a big bass hit. After giving him a ride around his front deck, Kuphall could see that only the trailer hook was in the bass. When put on his digital scale, it topped out at 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and gives him 26 pounds today.

“I threw at that (cypress) tree, and I was just about to raise my spinnerbait, and he nailed it,” said the Mukawonago, Wis., pro. “I think the main hook fell out and the trailer hook just held him.”

Kuphall posted the second-biggest bag of the tournament on Day 1. His 29-10 was still the second-biggest five-bass limit after Day 2 – to Drew Cook’s 31-13 on Day 1. However, Kuphall struggled Friday, catching only 4 keepers totaling 13-0. Clearly, he’s back on track today. He’s still got a 2 1/2-pounder to cull in his 26-pound limit.
