Kuphall reaches the 100-pound mark

Caleb Kuphall was a considerable long shot to top the 100-pound mark in this tournament when he had only four keepers weighing 13 pounds on Day 2. In addition to overcoming those odds, we think the 38-year-old angler from Mukwonago, Wis., has made some B.A.S.S. history today by catching over 100 pounds with only 19 bass, one short of a five-fish limit all four days.

Kuphall has been on fire since he made a move and started flipping cypress trees with a half-ounce homemade jig trailed with a 2.75 Salty Craw Chunk, both in green pumpkin.

“This was a good stop today, coming up here,” said Kuphall, in the understatement of the tournament. Since 11:15 he has landed 28 pounds, 4 ounces, including a big bass weighing just under 8 pounds. Unofficially, he has 102 pounds, 2 ounces, and is leading this tournament at 1:20.

Kuphall hasn’t won this tournament, by any means. But we’re pretty sure he’s made some B.A.S.S. history.
