Kelly Jordon said onstage yesterday, “I LOVE South Carolina!” KJ’s history would indicate why, and he’s trying to add to it. Jordon was a bit perplexed earlier today.
“It’s changed,” Jordon said on Bassmaster LIVE of yesterday’s hotspot in the Santee River. “Maybe they’ll turn on. I might have to adjust. I don’t know.”
The tide has the water about two feet lower. But Jordon also got there an hour earlier than he did yesterday, when he caught 24-7 in about an hour. Well, he’s adapting. Jordon just landed a 5 1/2-pounder.
“They’re here,” he said. “The good thing is I’ve caught a 5 1/2-pounder. The bad thing is I’ve had four bites.”
Why does Jordon love South Carolina? He’s enjoyed a couple of career highlights nearby at Santee-Cooper Reservoir. He caught 103-3 there in 2006 when he finished fifth. Preston Clark won it with 115-5. Two years earlier, Jordon came from way back in the standings after two days and closed with 28-9 then 32-2 to win a $100,000 Bassmaster event at Santee-Cooper.
